TT #33: cars

Thirteen cars we've owned

our car

Right now we are driving this darkblue BMW 318i Touring (model E46). Before that we drove the following cars, in chronological order into the past (20 years):

  • bright red BMW 318iS coupĂ© (E36) - Very fast, but also very comfortable; a fabulous car!
  • gray BMW 318i sedan (E36) - In the morning Ron had an accident with the E30, in the afternoon we had this one. The advantage of him working in the car business!
  • bluegray BMW 318i sedan (E30) - Ron's pride and joy, he upgraded everything from manual to electronic wherever possible and turned it into the most luxurious version (all in accordance with official BMW specs).
  • bordeaux red BMW 316i sedan (E30) - We missed driving BMW and were happy to find this one on the internet although it needed some repairing.
  • red VW Golf 1.1 - The pic is taken during its facelift to GTi-look.
  • orange BMW 2002 sedan (E15) - Ron restored it with some friends in about 4 months, so we could get married in it.
  • darkred VW Golf 1.3 - I have a pic, but couldn't find it. I drove it to Wassenaar (where I was treated for my eating disorder) 3 days a week.
  • red Opel Kadett 1.3 - We only had it for a short time, but we have been on vacation to Austria with it.
  • black and white VW Golf diesel - I don't think we have a pic of this one. We called it our "anti-discrimination car". :-)
  • green BMW 320i sedan (E21) - We bought it fairly standard, Ron tuned it himself enginewise (from 121 to 170 bhp).
  • brown BMW 525 sedan - Bargain purchase and automatic. Crashed one day before Christmas, not our fault.
  • green Fiat Regata diesel - Deliberately no picture, none taken because this was the biggest mistake ever and we'd rather forget all about it.
  • red BMW 318 sedan (E21) - The first car we bought together, a pleasure to drive and a beauty.

Can you tell we are BMW-fans? ;-) What's your favourite car brand?

BMWs are nice cars! Sounds like you've enjoyed them. :)

Hubby and I have a Jeep Wrangler, and we love it! :)

Happy TT, and thanks for visiting my blog. :)

  3. I've actually never driven a Beemer, but my dad says my Acura TSX drives like one. I ought to see if he's right...

    Happy TT, Tink!

  14. Over how many years did you own these cars?

  15. Cool! I did a TT like this a while ago. It's fun looking back at all the cars you've had, isn't it.

We've been US military living in Germany too long to be BMW fans--LOL. It seems every second American who comes over here buys themselves a broken-down BMW for about 3 times what they'd pay for any other brand, just so they can tell the folks back home they've got a BMW. *eyeroll*

Right now, I'm lusting after classics, but I'm afraid that'll have to wait until the kids are done learning how to drive. *eek*

  16. Wow! 13 cars in 20 years!

I love Honda.. and so does the rest of my family. We all drive different makes: CR-V (me), Accord (sister), Odyssey (mother), and Civic (father). The only one who doesdn't drive a Honda is my brother-in-law. And that car is on it's last leg.

I've had a couple beemers in my lifetime. Great cars!

My favorite vehicle is my Jeep cherokee. It's 10 years old and I still love it. We bought a Chevy Tahoe a year ago and love that too. I like driving big SUVs now. Make me feel safe on the road *g*

  18. I've never had a BMW. When the youngun's were around it was always a "Mommy Van." Now, I drive a Honda Element---yeah, I know they are ugly. But, I have a friend with miniature horses who can take the seats out and put three stallions in the back of his car!
Enjoyed your list. Thanks for stopping by mine.

  19. So let me make sure. . . you like BMWs, right? ;)

  20. That's some list! I don't think I've owned thirteen cars. Nope, not quite.

  22. If we've had any one car maker than another it would be Ford - had a Fiesta, a couple of Focus's and an Explorer - fondly called the SARsmobile :-)

  23. If I didn't have kids I'd love to drive a BMW. However, my kids (love them to death) would trash it. As long as I have a crappy van, I know it's safe. :)

    Thanks for stopping by today!!

  24. Seems to me that BMW is your big love, lol ! I couldn't put 13 cars together, I don't remember. To me a car has four wheels and a steering wheel and preferably brakes and has to be comfy. All the rest I don't care, that's like shoes or handbags I just don't see it, lol !

  25. can never go wrong with a BMW!

  26. Nice list. I don't really have a favorite car - as long as it gets me, and at least three others, from here to there, I'm happy.

    ReplyDelete
  27. I don't know if I'm more amused that you have owned so many cars or that most of them have been BMWs! Very lucky :)

    Happy TT!

  34. I loved out BMW550. We had to part with it because a third car seat couldn't fit. :o)

Yep, we had three under the age of three. Oh, not triplets but our oldest had just turned three, our second one was 18 months old when our third one was born.

Now my dad had never liked foreign cars. He only buys American made cars. He loves his cadillacs.

Hope you have a blessed Thursday!

  35. You sure like Beemers... we've had a few ourselves and love them. Currently both drive mercs but would go back to beemers.

  36. Wow! That's a pretty amazing list! I can't say that I've been lucky enough to own thirteen cars in my lifetime - pretty impressive!

I'm a Toyota-girl myself, but right now I'm in a caravan until I get my Sienna!

  37. Wait! I see a trend!! I've driven 2 cars and one was an 89 Chystler lebaron... that was my high school car!

  40. I once owned a Beamer...I called her Suzy Q because when she was good, she was very good, and when she was bad, she was very, very bad and expensive to repair! I still loved her despite her expensive upkeep.

Yowza! That's a lot of BMWs!

  42. Anonymous23/3/07 04:44

Beemer's are beauts and I used to dream of owning one - until I got behind the wheel of my battered utilitarian pickup truck.

Best car to tell stories about was our diesel VW Rabbit.

  45. Today is the 50th anniversary of Europe ! So I visit all my European compatriotes in Blogworld and hug my sisters ! Without Europe I would probably sit somewhere in Germany with a german husband instead of an Italian, and my son wouldn't be with a Dutch girl !

  46. Wow that's a lot of cars. Sorry I'm so late to your TT list last week was a busy one I'm just catching up!
