TT #66: animation movies

TT66

Thirteen of my favourite animation movies

I love animation movies, as long as they are not too childish. I know they are made for children, but that's something else! I have a lot of favourites, but I have to limit myself here... :-)

  • All Dogs Go To Heaven (1989) - A dog returns from the dead looking for revenge on his killer using an orphan girl who can talk to animals.

  • The AristoCats (1970) - Upon Madame Adelaide Bonfamille's passing her cat Duchess and 3 kittens stand to inherit her fortune. But not if Edgar the butler can help it...

  • Bambi (1942) - A young deer is growing up in the wild after his mother is shot by hunters.

  • Brother Bear (2003) - A young Inuit hunter seeks vengence against a bear, only to be magically changed into a bear himself, and his only chance to change back is with a talkative bear cub.

  • Cars (2006) - A hot-shot race-car named Lightning McQueen gets waylaid in Radiator Springs, where he finds the true meaning of friendship and family.

  • Fantasia (1940) - A collection of animated interpretations of great works of classical music.
Fantasia 2000 (1999) - An update of the original film with new interpretations of great works of classical music.

  • FernGully: the Last Rainforest (1992) - The magical inhabitants of a rainforest called FernGully fight to save their home that is threatened by logging and a polluting force of destruction called Hexxus.

  • Finding Nemo (2003) - A father-son underwater adventure featuring Nemo, a boy clownfish, stolen from his coral reef home. His timid father must then travel to Sydney, and search Sydney Harbour to find Nemo.

  • The Fox and the Hound (1981) - Two childhood animal friends find themselves forced to become enemies.

  • Ice Age (2002) - Set during the Ice Age, a sabertooth tiger, a sloth, and a wooly mammoth find a lost human infant, and they try to return him to his tribe.

  • The Jungle Book (1967) - Inspired by Rudyard Kipling’s "Mowgli" story, The Jungle Book follows the ups and downs of the man-cub Mowgli as he makes his way back to the human village with wise panther Bagheera to escape ruthless tiger Shere Khan. Along the way, he meets unforgettable friends and foes including mad King Louie of the Apes, the hypnotic snake Kaa and the loveable, happy-go-lucky bear Baloo, who teaches Mowgli “The Bare Necessities” of life and the true meaning of friendship.

  • Peter Pan (1953) - Wendy and her brothers are whisked away to the magical world of Neverland with the hero of their stories, Peter Pan.
Peter Pan: Return To Neverland (2002) - In London during World War II, this is the story of Wendy's daughter, Jane, who is kidnapped by Captain Hook and Peter Pan must come to the rescue.

  • The Pooh movies:
The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh (1977) - A collection of animated shorts based on the stories and characters by A. A. Milne.
The Tigger Movie (2000) - Tigger goes looking through the hundred-acre-wood to find his family.
Piglet's Big Movie (2003) - When Piglet comes up missing his Hundred Acre Wood friends use Piglet's own Book of Memories to find him, discovering along the way just how big a role he's played in their lives.
Pooh's Heffalump Movie (2005) - A.A. Milne's enduring characters make room for a fresh arrival to the Hundred Acre Wood in the irresistible form of a young purple pachyderm.

  1. I've grown to love the off-beat sense of humor of the more recent Disney animations. This is a wonderful list.

    Thanks for stopping by.

  2. I LOVE these movies! I'm a Disney nut anyway so tend to like those kinds of things.

I feel your pain about not being able to comment on as many blogs last week as I was under the weather too. I plan to hit most, if not all of them this week.

And hey - thanks so much for buying my book - and I hope you enjoy it. Let me know what you think.

    Happy TT-13!

    Smiles,

  3. I love animation movies too. I also love to read children's books. Most times I feel like they are really written for anyone..
hey and no worries Tink about not getting around, glad you are better!

  4. I have to admit I was never one for animated movies UNTIL grandchildren. That changed everything. Great list Tink, I hope you are feeling better. I have to say it is just too hard to pick a favorite. I love them all!

    ReplyDelete
  5. LOVE the Aristocats!! Glad you didn't leave them out, Tink; I don't think they get nearly enough notice anymore.

  6. What a great list. You just can't beat a Disney movie. You just can't. Have a great TT. :)

  7. My favorite animated movie of all time is Beauty and the Beast.

  8. My fave was the original 101 Dalmatians, whichm was one of the very fist films I ever saw. I still have never seen Fantasia. Ought to put it on my Netflix list pronto.

I can't stomach Disney's Pooh films. Apparently the descendant of A.A.Milne, who sold the rights to Disney, now wishes fervently that she had never done so.

  9. A few of my favorites would have made the list too, especially the Disney/Pixar movies and Winnie-the-Pooh!

    Happy TT!

  10. Wow! You have your TT up early. Mine's not up just yet. I love Disney movies! Fox and the Hound, Finding Nemo, and don't forget Snow White, Little Mermaid, and Beauty and the Beast.

  17. I've seen every one of these movies, but you are the only other person on this planet that seems to have seen "All Dogs Go to Heaven." I love that movie, but no one seems to have heard of it.

    Hope you're feeling better!

    ReplyDelete
  18. Bambi is one of my favorites too when I was young and if it is ever shown again, I wouldn't hesitate to watch it.

    ReplyDelete
  19. Fantasia is the best! I totally forgot about it. Great list!

    ReplyDelete
  20. I must admit, I do like most of those but Bambi bores me to tears. LOL! I like a lot of the newer Disney movies too...they're so entertaining and in a way they seem to be more for adults than children.

My Thursday Thirteen is up too! :)

    ReplyDelete
  22. My favorite is Little Wermaid (which is how my son said it) and I can sing an awesome Sea Witch song: "Those poor unfortunate souls!"

My husband loved Cars, bt I only saw bits and pieces of it while the kids were watching it :-)

  49. All the ones you mention are pretty good. I am NOT a big Disney fan, though. When I was a little girl back in the Sixties, I resented all the wimpy heroines who sat around on their teensy behinds waiting to be rescued....and the stories still tend to push the notion that only the beautiful are good (though they finally started making girl characters tough and brave sometimes back in the eighties). And of course middle aged ladies are EASY villainesses, aren't they?

Some might say I'm reading too much into them, but I am giving you the straight visceral reaction I had back in early childhood...which explains why I love SHREK, I guess.
