TT #81: deity at home

TT81

Thirteen pictures of deity statues / figurines in my home

Over time I have gathered some deity (goddesses and gods) statues / figurines around our home. Gift and self-bought, new or used (flea market, E-bay, etc.). I've got the most ones of Bast, but I bet that doesn't surprise you! ;-) If you know who the Greek lady on the 4th picture is, tell me please...

Even though I'm a Christian I've always enjoyed viewing relics of other religions. I especially enjoy those of the Mesopotamia and Egyptian era! It gives such a glimpse into past cultures.

  2. I don't know who that fourth one is either, but she is certainly lovely. Kuan Yin is beautiful too, so delicate looking. Pan on the other hand looks a bit, umm, eager LOL.

    That Freya figurine is lovely

No idea on #4; for some reason I thought Hestia, but I have nothing to base that on.

m'k... Number 3 reminds me of the Venus de Milo statue at the Louvre (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Venus_de_Milo) #4 doesn't look Greek to me - because of the ruffle on her lower leg. She looks more 1800s English to me. That doesn't mean she's not Greek. Artemis is usually seen with her bow and arrow or bathing and the girl in #4 looks like she's getting ready to bathe. I also wonder if #5 is diana - the roman version of artemis is usually more masculine looking.

I spent a lot of time at the Norton Simon museum and J Paul Getty growing up. Greek statuary are... familiar to me.

    I hope I don't offend.

It's a fabulous collection - truly beautiful. I wonder your draw to Bastet and I notice the lack of Shiva (my favorite)! :)

Happy TT! I do love your TTs!

  21. Interesting collection... I love the #4 statue... wish we could figure out who she is. Perhaps she really is Hestia, based on a quick look at Google images. Oh well.

  29. Cool list, lovely artwork. I'd have to agree with Claudia on #4 and say she's not greek (possibly an English interpretation of a greek goddess). Let us know if you do find out.

What a beautiful statue collection and how well you've captured them!

Sorry I can't help you out with the 4th, if it isn't Diana ?

Wishing you a wonderful end to your week :-)

  37. The dress on your 4th pic doesn't look classic Greek: the ruffles look wrong to me. Are you sure it isn't a Victorian view? If so, I would guess Pandora or some other mortal figure - because the usual helmets, owls, bows etc that characterise the gods are missing.
