Reiki Master

I got my Reiki 1st degree in 2003 together with my sister Joke and in 2005 we got our 2nd degree together. Unfortunately our Master decided to stop with courses and attunements. It took some time to find another way to continue this path. When I finally found it, I started the Master study at 1st degree level so I could refresh my memory and learn some new things. Because of the fatigue and concentration problems it took me longer than expected but I did finish it!

Friday morning I got my Reiki 3rd degree attunement / initiation together with 4 others. It was a very intense experience for me and very emotional. Water kept running from my eyes and it weren't tears, a strange feeling! My body felt very heavy, but not uncomfortable. Afterwards I couldn't stop yawning.
After lunch we immediately started giving 1st and 2nd degree attunements to a group of people. Attunement is hard work for me. I got energy from it but my body was exhausted. I'll have to be creative to find a good way for me to do this, but that shouldn't be a problem. The Reiki Master gave me some tips already. It was a long, but very instructive and nice day. After taking my time with studying I can finally call myself a Reiki Master!

Happy Halloween & Blessed Samhain

Halloween
I did a wonderful ritual tonight. I made a talisman for someone close that really needs healing and comfort. For the altar I used some special things: the glassware from her parents for the cake & wine, a big shell on the west from her mother and incense from her & her daughter's shop. It was the first time I used my new altar chest. The room was lighted by candles and a lamp I bought on a flea market recently.

I meditated and asked her ancestors for their blessing and protection. My mum & dad and my black panther led me into a cave. Behind a massive wooden door with old steel hinges was a space lit by torches. I sat down at a pond. Across the pond were her parents, grandmother, aunt and a lot of other ancestors I don't know. I was a bit nervous because in real life I wasn't exactly their favourite person. I explained my reason for coming. They smiled and said that they really appreciated what I'm doing for her. The atmosphere was friendly. They gave their blessing and promised to keep an eye on her and protect her. I thanked them and left with a good feeling.

In the talisman I did herbs, gemstones, a bindrune on wood (sliced from my big staff and marked by her brother), a goddess image and a fairy coin; all especially chosen for her and her situation. After making the talisman I presented it to the Goddess and God and then I charged it with reiki. I can't solve her problems, but I can try to give her comfort and healing, the arm around her shoulders she so desperately misses. The talisman is still on the altar; this blessed night when the veils between the worlds are thin will charge it with love from her ancestors.

Ara Ritual Apart Together

I thought it was a pity we had planned this RAT together with the 2nd soccer match The Netherlands had to play. I even considered doing it earlier, also because I was afraid to be distracted by the noises from the café across from here. But I decided to set my priorities straight, being Ara and Phyllis' friend. We agreed to do a Cone of Power for this friend, who has recently heard she has cancer. We hope to meet her next year at our initiation. This was important to me, so I went upstairs after the national anthems.

I put my headphone on with a meditation CD (Natives by Peter Kater and R. Carlos Nakai, I can recommend it!) and relaxed. I looked at the friend's picture and somehow felt a connection right away. Just before I started I heard people outside cheering "Holland 1-0!!!"; I smiled, but let it go and pass. I put my Mindfoldmask on and started visualizing the Ara-group and the friend. I met the group at the bottom of the hill. It was a wonderful walk up with beautiful panorama. On the meadow just outside the temple we made a circle. I saw Phyllis walking into the temple. I was at the South, facing the temple. During the ritual Phyllis sat down and connected to us. When we evoked the quarters, I made a mistake and started evoking the west. I quickly switched to the south. Oops! :-) During the Oak Grove I opened my chakra's (I have been preparing for Janet and Gavin's workshop and read about this). The Cone of Power started with an amazing visualisation of golden and silver energy meeting in my solar plexus. I saw and felt it going around our circle very strongly. When we picked up our instruments I was in doubt whether it should be my drum or my rattle. I finally picked up the rattle and we started walking around, first slow than faster and faster. When we released the energy we send it up and slightly westward. The energy was very powerful and kept flowing for quite some time. While my hands were up in the ritual, my 'real' hands were on the friend's picture sending her Reiki. We had to regain our breath for a minute and then did the cake & wine. We talked about the Cone of Power, hoped she would benefit from it fully and wished her all the best. We thanked the god, goddess and elements and closed the circle. Afterwards Phyllis walked to us from the temple. She smiled and complimented us. The ritual was super and the energy felt great. Unfortunately she couldn't stay long because of some calls she had to make, so we said our goodbyes and walked down the hill. When I walked into my hut, I was back in my bedroom immediately. I felt good and relaxed.

Downstairs it was half-time and still 1-0. I decided to write down my experiences in my Ara-book immediately, when it was still fresh in my memory. Good decision, but I should have done it on the computer; writing with my bruised wrist wasn't a good idea. Of course I was pigheaded and wrote nevertheless... Then I grounded fully watching the rest of the match with cola and chips! ;-)

TT #79: Reiki

TT79

Thirteen things about Reiki

Some years ago I've done Reiki level I and II. This week I started with Reiki level III to become Master. In this TT I'll tell you some more about this form of healing.

  • The name Reiki derives from the Japanese pronunciation of two Japanese characters that describe the energy itself: 霊 rei (meaning 'unseen' or 'spiritual') and 気 ki (meaning 'energy' or 'life force'). The most widely used English translation is 'universal life energy'.

  • Reiki is a healing method that is both magnetic and radiatory, and which operates on all levels of being - physical, emotional, mental and spiritual. The energy that is channelled through the hands does not have to be directed into specific areas of the body, as it will flow to where ever it is needed - just as the sea smooths the sand on a beach, filling the holes and levelling the sandcastles.

  • Mikao Usui is the founder / developer of the system of Reiki. It is based firmly on the esoteric principles that were represented in Japan in the early part of last century. Usui brought together, in a unique way, the principles of Traditional Chinese Medicine, energy transfer techniques like Chi Kung (in its Japanese form of kiko), Tendai Buddhism in terms of energy exercises, empowerments and spiritual teachings, and Shintoism in terms of techniques used to control the energies.

  • Reiki is not a religion. It is very spiritual in nature, but there is no belief required in order to learn and use it. The beauty of reiki is that it will work regardless of whether you believe in it or not.

  • Level I: Learning to apply the Reiki energy. It includes information and hand positions for self-healing, direct healing with others and pets, and group healing teams.

  • Level II: Learning to radiate more profound healing and healing from a distance. Using the first three Reiki symbols: the distance symbol, the mental symbol and the power symbol.

  • Level III: Learning to work with the master symbol that transfers healing energy to the source (cause) of the symptoms, learning to teach and attune/initiate others.

  • The most important parts of each stage are called the initiations (meaning new beginnings and abilities). These are also called attunements, and are just that: a tuning in to the Reiki energy which brings about a remembrance and a reawakening of the healing capacity and transformational powers accessible to each person.

  • Animals, like people, benefit from Reiki. Whether you have cats, dogs, birds, fish, ferrets, horses, or other larger animals, you can use Reiki to help your pets. Any animal that receives regular grooming from a human is probably receptive to being touched for Reiki. If you want to give Reiki to an animal who is not usually touched, such as fish or wild animals, techniques can be used for Reiki from afar, such as beaming and distant Reiki.

  • Anyone, from children of 5 to people in the last stages of their lives, can learn Reiki. It is not necessary to have any special knowledge, experience or talents, only a desire to learn. It is not even necessary to believe in Reiki, although experience of using it soon makes it hard to deny its existence, even if it remains an unexplainable mystery.

  • A Reiki treatment supports the whole person: physically, emotionally, mentally and spiritually. When a Reiki practitioner places his/her hands on an area of their own or a client's clothed body, energy flows through the practitioner into the client. This transfer may be felt as any type of sensation (heat, cold, vibration, tingling, unusual heaviness, etc.) or sometimes as no sensation at all.

  • Reiki is not intended to be a cure. It does however improve the body's natural ability to heal itself. Reiki is not intended to replace a physician or other health care provider! It can be a very valuable addition to other treatments though.

  • There are 5 Reiki Principles (exact words can vary):
    Just for today,
    - do not be angry
    - do not worry
    - give thanks for your many blessings
    - devote yourself to your work
    - be kind to every living being

Reiki II

Last Saturday Joke and I had the first day of our Reiki II course by Percy. There were two other girls, also sisters. One of the women we met at the practising afternoon in January was present to help Percy and as a preparation for her third degree.
After a chat and some general information we got the symbols of the second degree; they are used to send Reiki to situations (past, present or future, Reiki doesn't know time) or persons. Not easy to draw or pronounce!! It's an unwritten law not to tell or show the symbols. I know everything can be found on the internet, but I'll honour that rule in my log. While we were practising the symbols each of us was taken aside to receive our attunements. In the coming weeks we'll try and see what it does. On April 16 we'll have the second day to exchange experiences, ask questions, practise if we want. Afterwards we'll get our certificate.

Reiki

First of all:
Happy & Healthy 2005 for everyone!!!

Last Saturday I had a Reiki practising afternoon. My Reiki master Percy offers those afternoons from time to time to practise on each other, talk about experiences, etc. My sister Joke and I did Reiki I in November 2003. We'll do Reiki II in March / April 2005. I'm looking forward to it, I feel I'm ready to take the next step. I feel at ease with Percy as my Reiki master; she's good and down-to-earth, not "woolly". This is her website (the English version).

I know Reiki works. I use it on myself, others and pets. I don't see it as a replacement for medical treatment, but it certainly is a great and healing addition. It also works very good to relax.

Do you know Reiki? What's your opinion / experience?
