TT #34: no comment

Thirteen posts without comments

Mainly, I blog for myself, like writing in a diary. Doing it online gives me the chance to share it with others and get comments. I like comments, in all shapes and forms: just a virtual hug, a long story that makes me think, sharing something, a helpful link, etc. Sometimes it's clear why a post gets no comments, sometimes it's a mystery. I gathered the last 13 posts on this blog (starting last week), that didn't get comments. They all open in a new window. If you read them and you want to comment, you're welcome to of course. Just please don't feel obliged to do so, that's not my intention. No cause for complaint about comments. :-)

How about you? Do you need/like/love comments, do you care at all? Do you leave a comment when you visit a blog? Do you always answer questions on yours?

  1. Sometime I may have something to say but don't know exactly how to put it in words.
If I run into a new blog and I don't want to intrude either.

But if someone new leaves a comment on mine. I try to get back to theirs and leave a comment.

If my comment is a question and they leave no reply back even if it under their own comment space. It irradiates me and I don't mine going back and reading the answers.

  2. I love comments on my blog and I usually try to comment on other people's. But sometimes I find it hard. I always love your site though Tink, even if I don't leave a lot of comments. :)

  3. This is a pretty cool idea for a post...and I will go look at those links.

It is a strange thing when people comment otr not...it doesn't even seem to do with how many people stop by a blog either. I suppose some topics inspire and some miss. I had some pretty depressing posts this week and my blog and comments just died...it was scary. I was writing about some heavy social issues and it was too much. I think for me I learned a lesson...but still sometimes I just want to write about what I'm thinkign about ya know?

I usually leave a comment if I visit a blog...even if it's just hello...but sometimes if I am superbusy, I just want to visit and see what is up with blog friends but don't have time...ah time!

Here is my TT and it's a survey about questions I'd love to know the answerto about art in peoples homes etc...

Yes, it is a hit and miss thing. some quickies and some not.

  6. It's hard to tell which posts will garner comments and which won't.

I do try to leave comments, but sometimes I just don't have anything to add. Okay, here's a question back--are "me too" or "I totally agree" comments pointless or appreciated?

Gah. I know what I'd answer. At least the "me too" comment shows somebody read it.

Now you've inspired me to make a point of leaving comments, even if I have nothing to say. If people start complaining, I'm blaming you. ;-) (just kidding)

I've suffered the same feeling. It can be frustrating at times, but I think you simply have to be patient. Btw, I am glad to have stumbled on your blog. I'm going to book mark it b/c I do want to know more about "witchy" stuff (seriously). It's nice knowing there's an expert I can turn to. (I'm a writer).

Happy TT Day. Mine is up on 13 reasons spring is in the air.

  8. i almost never got comments before i started doing TT. I still seldom get them on non TT posts. but then, before TT I was a lurker who read blogs voraciously but almost never commented. I love getting comments. i even love leaving them now but i tend to spend 15 to 30 minutes per comment and that takes a huge chunk out of reading time...

meanwhile i'm still harping on the library closure:
my #26 is 13 of the items vying for my attention in the last nine days before our library’s doors close indefinitly. 4 NF books, 4 novels and 4 DVDS plus #13 which is a bit of a cheat. I can only hope to complete two novels, help me decide which one to commit to

  9. You just never know what post is going to elicit comments. I will write something I think is really provocative and get nothing. Then I will write something really inane and get tons of comments.

But remember, it's not that no one is listening...it's just that many people are not comfortable commenting. I was out to dinner earlier this week with some friends and one woman said, "I just want you to know that I read your blog every day and I love the writing and love what your write about. I'm not the type to comment, so I thought I would just let you know."

But in the end, all bloggers live for comments!!!

  10. I love getting comments, and I like leaving comments too. I don't always reply to comments left at my blog, but I do read and 'store' all comments in my mind.
Sometimes I visit a blog and I read something impressive, but then I just don't know how to put in words what I feel...then I leave to think about it, and then in the end I forget.
So it really depends on the moment.
That's actually the reason I don't TT at the moment. I don't have time to comment on other blogs, so I don't think its fair that way. :)

    have a great day!

  11. comments are like hearing "you've got mail." It makes you feel loved.

  12. What a work !! Now I noticed that most of the posts were posted on sundays, and fridays. Sundays I have the same, I don't know what happens but it's always VERY calm apparently nobody reads and writes. You write and nobody reads you. Fridays there is Friday Feast so people are already running from blog to blog. On Wednesdays we have Wordless Wednesdays. Monday should be free, although some (me inc luded) are participating at Manic Monday which is nice. You get one word and spin around. Maybe these are the reasons.

  13. Comments mean your not blogging in a vacuum. I love them too. It's the sunshine in my day and probably one of the reasons I blog. To get feedback on my life. Sure, you're supposed to do this for you. That's great and I do. We probably all do, but it's nice to know someone is listening.

I love comments, but many of my post go uncommented too. However, according to my stats, people are reading them... I wish they would comment! Maye just a "Lovely Post" or "Wow what a skewed opinion" ANYTHING!! LOL

    Happy TT!

Great idea for a TT, Tink! And the comment thing, who can figure. Sometimes posts I think will get more comments don't get many, and posts I think wouldn't get many comments rake 'em in. Sometimes I know why a post gets comments and another one doesn't, but it's no means always clear. Ah well, I enjoy the comments I get! :)

Happy TT, and thanks for visiting my blog!

  16. this is a great TT. And i love comments, love the dialogue back and forth on a topic, or even going off topic following a tangent. I don't think i'd enjoy blogging as much without all the wonderful people i've met online.

  17. I love comments, and I try to leave them when I visit, but I often browse at work and it feels more like slacking off if I'm actually commenting. Silly, I know.

    ReplyDelete
  18. Yes, I know how you feel about comments. I post articles on my blog and sometimes never get a comment... *pouts* I guess that's one good thing about TT, you definitely get comments then.

    P.S. I had a cat named Tinkerbell...

It's nice to see my friends come to visit and leave comments. I try to leave as many comments as I can, but with 4 children I get pulled off the computer quite often.
I'm going to try and reply to comments. I reply in emails to the bloggers I really know.
I do make the effort to leave a comment for someone who has left a comment for me.
    Happy Thursday!

  20. I love getting comments too, and try to leave my own as much as possible. It's a bit tough sometimes though, for instance right now I'm playing indoor soccer with my 6 year old as I type. Not that conducive for comment writing.

I really appreciate comments because as a previous poster said they show you're not writing in a vacuum. I'm way too much of an exhibitionist to be happy doing that ;-).

Happy TT, and thanks for visiting my blog.

  21. I keep odd hours so most of my posts that are done in the early AM don't get comments...people look but don't say anything. :-)

    ReplyDelete
  22. I love getting comments. But I try not to comment somewhere unless I really have something to say.

I'm always amused by my posts that I don't think will get any comments and for some unknown reason gets tons.

    Awesome TT!

  23. I do like comments, especially on a post where I think I've said something that's important to me. Those are usually the posts that seem to get the least comments. I do try and answer questions. Either on my blog or on the blog of the person doing the asking.
Most of the time if I stop by and read something I try and comment, unless I feel like I'm intruding. There is one blog that I read where I only leave comments if I really have something to say where I think I'm contributing to the author. She is so sweet, that she feels she must reply to everyone and she gets 50 or more comments a day and it's hard for her. So I refrain from commenting as a courtesy for her. Great list!

  24. I think it happens to all of us with some posts.
    Terrific Thursday Thirteen!
    My TT is posted.
    Have a wonderful day!
    Happy TT'ing!

  25. Always an interesting thing: "to comment or not". I personally love receiving and giving comments but sometimes I think I'm just in a funk and would rather 'lurk' to see what the rest of the blogosphere is up to. I must admit that on posts when I feel particularly strongly about something I tend to expect some kind of reaction, but I try not to take it too personally when I get few to nil comments.

I know what you mean, it's a virtual hug, an acknowledgement (if you will). When I look at the numbers vs. the actual comments then I know that people actually do take the time to read my stuff...and I suppose that should be enough, for me anyway.

    ReplyDelete
  26. I always comment on my favorite blogs, on daily memes, but not on all blog posts I read. If you don't have something nice to say and all. Great idea for a tt. I may do the same in the future.

    ReplyDelete
  27. I've been reading you in my feedreader, Tink. Don't worry; I'm lurking.

Yeah, I thrive on comments, too. In fact, I wonder what'll happen when the book comes out and there's no way for people to comment on it!

The feedback is special, but don't forget that lots of people lurk and never comment. They're important, too.

    ReplyDelete
  28. I love it when people comment on my blog, but don't feel bad when no one does. Especially since I sometimes don't leave comments on every blog I visit either. Sometimes I read the post and just have nothing to say or comment on.

    ReplyDelete
  29. That was a good way to get people to revist yer topics!

Great idea for a post. I know I get lots of visits to my site, but many post don't get commented on - I think it's often hard to leave the first comment. It's easier to leave comments after someone else has . . .

Thanks for sharing and for visiting my blog.

  31. fabulous idea for a TT, tink! i might even have to post about this topic!

i LOVE comments! i NEED comments! i hate it when i have a post with no comments!

thanks for stopping by and leaving me a comment! :o)

Very interesting list for a T13. I'll have to bookmark you and come back and comment again soon. :)

  33. I definitely love comments on my blog and get sad when I don't get many, esp if I took the time to write out a long soulful post.

I also try to comment on others' blogs too, but like a previous poster mentioned, sometimes it's a little difficult. :)

Thanks for stopping by, and, *commenting*! :)

  34. I like comments... I usually comment if I visit - only don't if I can't think of anything worth saying...

Actually - sometimes I comment when I have nothing to say and I prob shouldn't do this.

I have great commenters - and I miss them when they don't visit but chuckle away when they do.

SO tired... might have to go to sleep again.

  35. Interesting post, Tink!

I agree with you about blog writing being sort of like a diary. That being said, I like comments too. But only meaningful comments.

I'll be straight out here. When I get a comment like. "Nice post! My blah blah is up!" I purposefully go out of my way to not go to that blog, then and possibly in the future. To me those people are just trolling for visitors.

If my regular visitors leave a brief comment, that's fine, because I know they're busy and I know that they read my blog and I know that they will comment more in depth when they have something more significant to share, or when they have the opportunity. We can't always be there all the time.

So because that is the way I like to be treated, unless I have something profound or uplifting or a story to share related to the post, I do not comment.

Sometimes I will answer the question in my own comment on the post; sometimes I will update the post with the answer and make a note that it's been updated, if the question would be of interest to all readers; sometimes I go to the readers blog and answer the question there, especially if I am returning a visit to their blog.

I believe that some questions are just rhetorical and do not require an answer too.

Sometimes it's funny ~ you write what you think is a good post, and you don't get many comments and you wonder about why.

That being said, I'd rather get no comments than wishy washy ones.

Hey, where's all my readers? LOL

Thanks for visiting my TT and getting the idea to use the same subject idea for the future!

I'm really sorry I had to enable comment & word moderation. Loads of spam comments spoiled the free commenting, but please... don't let it stop you. I love every non-spam comment!
Thanks for visiting.
